Level of Development vs. Level of Detail (LOD)

The acronym “LOD” can be used for both Level of Detail and Level of Development. Nevertheless “Level of Detail” refers to the graphical representation of an object while “Level of Development” refers both to the graphical representation and to the information (properties) of the object.

Complex Roofing System [Revit]

STEP 1:

01. Open Revit and create a new family template called “Generic Model Pattern Based” (R >> New >> Family) located in your Autodesk folder (ex : Autodesk / RVT2017 / Family Templates / English_I / Generic Model Pattern Based.rft).

Buildings to Google Earth / .KMZ [Revit]

01. First download and install the CADtoEarth.Revit plugin extension from apps.autodesk.com

02. Open a new Revit project. Go to Add-Ins >> CADtoEarth Pane.

Export to SketchUp [Revit / SketchUp]

01. Open your Revit model

02. Enable the section box in 3D view. In Properties >> Section Box >> Apply

Linked models to IFC [Archicad / Revit]

ARCHICAD:

01. Open your Archicad project.

02. First check that all linked (hotlinked) models included into the currently open project (host) have been updated. For this, from the Floor Plan, Detail or Worksheet window, use File >> External Content >> Hotlink Manager.

03. Select your hotlink sources and clic on Update.

3D Printer / .STL [Archicad / Revit]

If you want to print your object or building with a 3D printer, you will need an .STL file (stereolithography).

ARCHICAD:

01. Open your project with Archicad.

02. Determine the size of your model with Measure Between Two References: lengh, width and height. Here we have 5072x2179x1471mm.

03. We will need to re-scale our .stl file to make it printable respecting 3D printer specifications. Example: the maximum build size of our 3D printer is 203x203x152mm.
